Sergeant Kennedy Sanders Memorial Candle Story

Sergeant Kennedy Ladon Sanders, U.S. Army, was known for being both hard working and fun-loving, with a deep commitment to her fellow soldiers and mission. Sanders, born to a marine veteran father, joined the JROTC in high school before enlisting in the U.S. Army Reserve. She served in the military and her community, working with local children as an assistant basketball coach and a soccer coach. Sanders worked at a local pharmacy while studying to be an X-ray technician, with plans to become a full-time soldier.

U.S. Army Reserve Sergeant Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia, was killed on January 28, 2024, in a drone attack on a U.S. base in Jordan known as Tower 22, near the Syrian border. The Waycross community honored her with a procession upon her return and dedicated a section of Eads Street as "Kennedy L. Sanders Way".
In July 2025, her family received her lost phone, which was found at the site of the attack. Foundation for Women Warriors +5.
